Work

We believe our work speaks for itself. Browse some of our projects below.

West Paw Designs

Salient Technologies, Inc. aided in the design of several injection molded West Paw products including the innovative Zisc for West Paw Design. Pet Business Magazine awarded Zisc their coveted Industry Recognition Award as best dog toy of 2006, adding, “…growth at retail continues to be driven by product innovation.” Zisc is designed to fly with speed and accuracy and be tougher than other toys, yet pliable and harmless to a dog’s soft mouth.

“Salient helped us visualize products that have proven to be great sellers. The experience in design and tool creation, along with the understanding of our market and its demographics, have really helped us collaborate efficiently with great success. I enjoy working with them and always look forward to future projects.” – Spencer Williams, President, WEST PAW DESIGN

iBike

Salient Technologies, Inc. worked on iBike from inception through manufacture developing and designing the product, creating all the 3D CAD and files needed for manufacture.  Salient continues to partner with iBike on additional products and ideas.

“We have worked with Salient on the design of all of our products. Though we are in Florida and they are in Montana, communication is easy and results are fast. They do a great job of creating design sketches, and detailed 3D models come soon thereafter. They listen carefully and respond quickly to design change requests. They also think carefully about details, so when the 3D model is ready for SLA prototyping, the first prototype is generally ready for production! Finally, Salient has a great network of suppliers, so we’ve been able to get very competitive prices on SLA models, tooling, plastics, and metal parts.” – John Hamann, CEO, iBike

Hydaway

Collapsing down to a 1″ thick disc, the Hydaway is constructed of  BPA free, non-toxic, food-grade silicone that’s dishwasher safe and made in 21 oz and 12 oz sizes.  Hydaway boasts a leak-proof cap and hinged design that’s a great solve for a portable, reusable, compact water bottle. Using 3D CAD, Salient has been helping engineer kinks out of Hydaway making all the tooling and molds ready to manufacture.

“I couldn’t have built this product in the timeframe I did without the expertise of the Salient team.   They blend a great mix of engineered functionality and design aesthetic.  I love that when we reach a problem to overcome, it’s a groupthink that benefits from many different perspectives.  I’m very impressed with what they can accomplish, not only on my project, but also the variety of others they’ve worked on – especially considering how much time they spend in Nerf gun battles. :)” -Niki Singlaub, Founder, Hydaway Bottles

Tech Tips

Tech Tips hired Salient Technologies, Inc. to create a precise and ergonomic touchscreen stylus.  A simple and functional design was created using conductive plastic.  The product was then, 3D modeled, prototyped and prepped for manufacturing.

“Salient was an integral part of bringing my concept of a precise and ergonomic touchscreen stylus to market. When we launched our products at the International CES 2013, engineers from large companies such as Sony and Cisco remarked at what a simple, well-executed and necessary product we had developed.” – Sri Vellanki, M.D., Founder, Tech Tips, LLC

Buckman Welding

The Windmaker is an innovative, patented (U.S. Pat. Nos. 7,534,005 & 7,178,932) welder’s helmet designed to create a filtered clean air space inside while keeping the user’s view illuminated and clear of obstruction. Photovoltaic cells recharge the helmet’s batteries from the light emitted by the welding flash, to increase battery life. Additionally, this state-of-the-art helmet is equipped with wireless communication capability, video recording and on-board data storage.

Salient Technologies, Inc. reviewed the requirements of Universal Healthier Helmets and developed a proof-of-concept prototype. The prototype is fully functional and includes an auto-dimming screen, LED illumination, filtered air intakes and an exhaust system that the user can direct at the workspace, diverting fumes and smoke out of their field of view. The design was sketched out with the client and modeled in SolidWorks 3D CAD, allowing the design to be thoroughly investigated while still only existing virtually. Using Rapid Prototyping and RTV molding processes, STI combined off-the-shelf components and rapid-molded proprietary components into a functional and aesthetic prototype to demonstrate to potential private and government customers. The proof-of-concept prototype has proved to be invaluable in communicating the uses and benefits of the Windmaker.

“I appreciate Salient’s professionalism and our excellent working relationship while designing and building the Windmaker welding helmet prototype. I … look forward to using your services again in the future.” – Michael Buckman, Universal Healthier Helmets

NOTE: The Windmaker is not yet in production and is unavailable for sale at this point.  If you are interested in manufacturing this product or licensing the technology, please contact Salient.

Planetary Design

Salient Technologies, Inc. has worked on many projects with Planetary Design and Liquid Planet – creating the absolute best coffee and tea tumblers and presses and air-tight storage solutions.  Working closely with Planetary Design, Salient works to trouble-shoot ideas and then create working prototypes to be sure only the best products hit the market.

“Besides being really great guys, what I love about working with Salient Tech is that they feel like an extension of our team.  They want to help us design the best possible product and they focus on the consumer experience the same way we do.  I think they understand that the better our products perform, the more projects we’re going to bring their way.  We’re on at least our 8th or 9th project with them!” ~Scott Billadeau, Liquid Planet Founder & CEO

Big Sky Racks

The Electronic Locking System (ELS) gun rack of Big Sky Racks was developed for law enforcement safety, durability and firearm accessibility. Salient Technologies Inc. aided in the development of this product increasing durability, range of adjustability and reduced part manufacturing costs by 70%. The assembly includes injection molded rubber, cast parts and other steel fabrication.

Big Horn Valve Co.

Salient Technologies Inc. was approached by Big Horn Valve Co. with a conundrum that has stumped the valve-world for years: creating a leak-free valve.  In a joint project with BHV and NASA, Salient invented a new method of opening and closing a ball valve. Instead of rotating the ball with a perpendicular stem (as is the case with standard ball valves), the ball is rotated around a fixed axis by two guide pins. This innovation eliminates the leak point that is present in all standard ball valves due to the penetration of an actuation stem through the valve body, creating a safe way to transport hazardous fluids and chemicals where fugitive emissions are a concern.

Salient worked closely with Big Horn Valve to create 3D CAD files, working prototypes, patent illustrations, and design for manufacture files.  BHV and Salient have worked on many subsequent projects together.

“Salient has been a great help to Big Horn Valve in developing our new MagBall™ valve. Their creativity and promptness in getting drawings out for review has been crucial.” – Kevin Burgess, CEO, Big Horn Valve, Inc.

ROC Wheels

ROC Wheels (Reach Out and Care Wheels)  is a non-profit organization that manufactures, delivers and maintains fully adjustable tilt-in-space wheelchairs to children in developing countries for 1/10 the cost of wheelchairs in the U.S. while still maintaining U.S. standards of functionality. ROC Wheels’ goal in working with Salient Technologies, Inc. was to create manufacturing designs that allow production centers within these countries to build wheelchairs, reduce turnaround time, create jobs and continue to keep costs at a minimum.  Salient produced 3D CAD files and essential proof of concept pieces to make this goal possible.

“Over the last five years Salient Technologies has enabled us to make swift and accurate design modifications to our ROC Wheelchair. As we continue to expand our operations to manufacture the ROC Chair throughout the world we are constantly challenged by the availability of quality materials. Being able to work with Salient Technologies’ talented engineers has allowed us to make modifications in the design in order to incorporate local materials while retaining or structural geometry and many features of the ROC Chair for the end user.” – Andrew Babcock, Executive Director, ROC Wheels

  • We gave (Salient) a very challenging reverse engineering project that had intimidated most of the engineers, machinists and manufacturers who’d looked at these for the past 136 years, the Merwin Hulbert 1878-1882 model revolvers with only original revolvers to work from. Not only did they do an exceptional job of analyzing and turning it into useful CAD, there was considerable value engineering thought put in by all the crew at Salient that made it far more than a drafting project. They considered purpose, function, durability, safety, likely points of wear, standardization for manufacturing, manufacturability, historical fidelity, aesthetics, etc. and considered them simultaneously which greatly helped keep the project on track. They’re fast and careful which is almost impossible to find and cheerful in the face of uncertainty like only the best engineers are. — Al Jones, Division Head, Merwin Julbert & Co.; CFO, Sharps Rifle Company

  • Salient has been awesome to work with and has gone the extra mile for me in getting my net into the marketplace. — Mike Westfall, President, Blue Ribbon Nets

  • I had been sketching gun parts for a couple years with the dream of one day making them a reality. My background is banking and I had no idea where to start. Someone told me about Salient Technologies. In my mind, I figured there was no way anyone would take my chicken scratch drawings and make heads or tails of them, but it was worth a shot. Both Steve and David sat down with me and showed sincere excitement about my ideas. They were then able to take my drawings, turn them into “real” schematics, and even helped me get the manufacturing set up. Today these ideas are now a reality. The Tikka Performance Center has become one of the largest aftermarket suppliers of Tikka rifle parts in the world. Thank you Salient! — Jason McHann, President, TikkaShooters.com
